A Very Long UN Meeting, 2007.
New York. 2007. When the UN Commission on Sustainable Development held an election for a new Chairperson, there was a bit of conflict among voting blocs and the process took hours longer than expected. The meeting stretched from Friday afternoon late into the evening. I was covering the meeting for UN Photo, and while we waited for an outcome I kept up with delegates while they waited. Votes in the meeting were cast, counted, debated and re-cast. Francis D. Nhema, Minister of Environment and Tourism of Zimbabwe, was eventually elected.
